LES LUNES & POPULIS WINE DINNER APRIL 23RD, 2019

Join us at Gloria as we welcome Shaunt Oungoulian from pioneering Natural Wine group, the Living Wines Collective, for a special one night fundraiser dinner event.   Shaunt and his partner, Diego, are winegrowers for labels Les Lunes and Populis, in Orinda, California.  Shaunt will be here at Gloria pouring his wines, paired with a 5-course tasting menu of Chef Andy Keith’s signature pescatarian cuisine, including:

2018 Populis, “Venturi Vineyard, Sauvignon Blanc, Mendocino County
2017 Les Lunes, “Dobson Vineyard,” Chardonnay, Manton Valley
2016 Les Lunes, “Arnold’s Block,” Carignane, Mendocino County
2016 Populis, “Reversée,” Carignane, Mendocino County
2016 Les Lunes, “Venturi Vineyard,” Zinfandel, Mendocino County

Les Lunes and the Populis label are Shaunt Oungoulian and Diego Roig. They lease their own vineyards, work their own vines, and have built their own cellar. Shaunt and Diego don’t own vineyards but rent plots that have been historically farmed without chemicals or irrigation where they can do their own work. While blazing their own trail, Les Lunes’ goal is to grow wines that pay respect to the great wines of California’s past.

Les Lunes’ practices of proper pruning, precise suckering, well-timed treatments, and thoughtful weed management lets them minimize the pesticide inputs in their vineyards. They do this to preserve the indigenous microbes on the grapes and in the soils, which leads to healthier and more complex wines that don’t need adjusting or stabilizing.

Their goal year in and year out is to bring you a unique taste of the distinct times and places which they love and tend. The care that they bring through the entire winegrowing process shines through into the final product. Their wines are balanced in their youth, but the care they invest in the winegrowing will continue to reverberate in their wines after years of cellaring.

Currently they work land in Napa, Carneros, Mendocino, and one of California’s newest AVAs, Manton Valley.

While they are committed to organic and native yeasts, they are not dogmatic in their techniques including the use of sulfur, although when they use it it’s always in small doses.
